Centenary plans taking shape

2022 – Our Centenary Year

Next year will mark Cleve’s Centenary and we want to make it a real celebration of everything that is good about the club, rugby and the Cleve family. The last 18 months has been really challenging so the Centenary provides a great opportunity to reach out to all members, past, present and new.

We’ve established a small group who are planning a variety of events throughout the year for members, friends and families and need your support. Early dates for next year include:

  • New Year’s Eve 1920’s themed Fancy Dress Party to launch our Centenary year
  • Past and present player’s reunions – 27th November 2021, 15th January, 19th Feb, 12th March, 24th September (Home 1st XV games on all these dates)
  • Cleve Centenary Rugby Dinner – 21st May
  • Ladies Raceday – 16th June
  • Cleve Centenary Ball and Celebration – 25th June
  • Christmas Party and Prize Draw – 18th December

Please put these dates in your diary, a full calendar can also be found here   Download . We are also designing some Centenary merchandise for sale throughout the year – any ideas on this most welcome.

A lot has happened in the last 100 years, so if you are looking for inspiration for your NYE Fancy dress, in 1922:

  • Wales were 5 Nations Champions beating England by 8 tries to 2
  • Gloucestershire were County Rugby Champions beating the North Midlands in the final
  • David Lloyd George was Prime Minister
  • The USSR was created
  • Babe Ruth was at the height of his powers
  • The BBC began broadcasting
  • The UK’s biggest ever Salmon was caught weighing 64Ib
  • Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamuns Tomb
  • Gandhi was imprisoned

And that was just 1922!
