Mike Ellery  R.I.P.

It is with sadness that we hear of the death of Mike Ellery.

Mike was a speedy and elusive winger and a prolific try scorer. He was educated at Colston’s School but it was playing at outside half for Cleve Juniors where his rugby career really started. As a senior he moved to the wing.

Mike went on to play for Bristol, scoring 251 tries in his 347 first team matches. He played 22 times for Gloucestershire and Western Counties against South Africa in 1960. In 1958 he had an England trial.

After leaving Bristol Mike returned to Cleve and continued his rugby until he was 49. He will be fondly remembered.

All at Cleve RFC offer our sincere condolences to Mike’s family and friends.
